Genre: Techno

We recently reviewed his record "Evocation EP", now we present his special Varpas mix. Active member of Berlin's electronic music stage and one of "Berlin Mitte Institut" project's members prepared a story full of Berlinish new tunes and technoid sounf for February's Varpas.

What are you up to recently?
At the moment I'm still promoting my latest release, the "Evocation EP" on Autist that is quite successful. I'm glad a lot of people like the tracks. It's amazing to get feedback from DJs all over the world. From my point of view digital releases are a great step forward for ambitious producers, because they get attention from a lot of different listeners and don't have to focus on their local network only.
How and where was mix recorded?
I usually record my "studio" mixes at home with my dj gear. The mix was done with with Traktor Pro Scratch, the Pioneer DJM 600 as external mixer and my Korg Microcontrol, which I normally use for producing, as Midi Controller for the effects and loops.
Can you shortly describe this mix?
I selected the tracks as contrapoint to the current predominant "happy" house sound. Of course I also like a lot of these tracks, but the problem is that most djs follow trends instead of taking the time to compile a self-contained set. Therefore my mix focuses on dark and technoid tracks with some glimmering contrasts and a well-dosed portion of "Berlin tracks".
The most impressive recent release?
I really like the new "Contacto LP" by Tadeo. It's a very deep and hypnotic album, which is a reminiscence to the well-known releases by Plastikman and Biosphere combined with Tadeos signature and a great sound design.
What are you up to next?
As music is my passion, I'm always working on new tracks. So 2009 will be an exciting year for me with some interesting releases. There are also a lot of shows with great artists planned for our Web-TV platform Berlin Mitte Institut.
Ladies and Gents greet Kandel.
